Safeguarding and Protecting Every Child!

The Second National Early Years Safeguarding
and Child Protection Conference

Friday 3rd November 2017 – Central London

Conference hashtag for Twitter: #EYSPEC

This important and thought-provoking conference has been organised to support the Early Years sector, to enable educators to work proactively in a solution-driven and collaborative environment with children and their families.

Background

In January 2016, prompted by the number of questions and queries that sector colleagues were posting on social media, as well as cuts in professional development that link to safeguarding and child protection awareness, Laura Henry sensed a need for a group on Facebook and started Early Years Safeguarding and Child Protection. The group is very successful and is the go-to place for colleagues to share and ask questions on safeguarding and child protection issues. This can only help to ensure that every child is protected and kept safe. There are close to 4,000 members now in this bespoke group and it was from this small start that Laura felt there was a need to come together and explore some of the issues.

New for 2017 Conference

As England’s national representative at the World Forum in Early Care and Education, during the conference Laura will host the first live screening in the UK of the international, thought-provoking Voices of Children documentary project!

We will watch the film and explore the themes, with discussion chaired by Angela Fowler from the world-renowned Erikson Institute.

  • Leroy Logan MBE, PhD, BSc – Retired Police Superintendent, Security Consultant & Voluntary Sector Practitioner

My Family Week

Monday 16th – Sunday 22nd October 2017

My family week, is the concept of International Early Years trainer, author and consultant, Laura Henry. Laura has worked with children and their families for three decades. She recently reflected on what do we mean by the term family in the modern sense of the word.

On a personal level, Laura’s parents divorced when she was young and she remembers the stigma attached to belonging to a single parent household. Fast forward 40 years, and although there is less of a stigma, certain types of ‘non-conventional’ families still find themselves less accepted by wider society.

Every family is unique and this uniqueness should be celebrated. With this in mind, Laura has created My Family Week 2017, using the characters from her bestselling book, Jo-Jo and Gran-Gran.

Laura will share a range of open-ended activities, experiences and provocations that Early Years settings, schools and parents can use to support children to tell their personalised story. We will also share stories and connect with each other via social media
