Alfie Kohn, Author and Lecturer
Alfie Kohn is the American author of 14 books on education, parenting, and human behaviour, including 'Punished by Rewards' (1993), 'The Schools our Children Deserve' (1999), 'Unconditional Parenting' (2005), 'The Homework Myth' (2006), 'The Myth of the Spoiled Child' (2014) and 'Schooling Beyond Measure' (2015).
Kohn has been described in Time magazine as “perhaps the country’s most outspoken critic of education’s fixation on grades [and] test scores.” His criticisms of competition and rewards have helped to shape the thinking of educators as well as parents and managers. Kohn has been featured on hundreds of TV and radio programs, including the “Today” show and two appearances on “Oprah”; he has been profiled in the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, while his work has been described and debated in many other leading publications.
Alfie lives in the Boston area andworks with educators and parents across North America and speaks regularly at conferences around the world.

Dr Prospera Tedam, Academic Lead Social Work & Practice, Angela Ruskin University
Dr Prospera Tedam is the Academic lead for Practice Quality at Anglia Ruskin University. She has a practice background in frontline children and families social work and in adoption. Prospera is a member of the Independent Families Return Panel of the Home Office, where she advises on safeguarding in relation to children in families who are being considered for return to countries of origin.
As a social work academic, Prospera has research interests around effectively engaging with children and families from BME backgrounds, Equality and diversity in higher education and children rights. Prospera collaborated with a survivor of witchcraft labelling to produce The W word: Witchcraft labelling and child safeguarding in social work practice a book which has been well received since its publication. Prospera will draw on the findings from this book in her keynote speech.
Keynote: Identifying Children at Risk of Witchcraft Labelling in Schools: Research & Practice
This keynote presentation will explore the growing incidence of witchcraft labelling and highlight the ways in which schools and education professionals might identify children at risk labelling and intervene to safeguard them from harm. The presentation will highlight other cultural practices which can be harmful to children and will recommend general strategies for working with families where these practices exist. Using the narrative contained in a recently published book, The W Word: Witchcraft Labelling and Child Safeguarding in social work practice, Dr Prospera Tedam will outline a number of missed opportunities by authorities to identify risk and challenge the abuse experienced by a child in a school in London nearly 20 years ago.
Christina Gabbitas, Award Winning Children's Author, Speaker
Christina Gabbitas is an award-winning children’s author who spends most of her time visiting schools and pre-schools inspiring children to read and write through her rhyming books and national poetry competition. Winner of Yorkshire Women of Achievement in Education 2016 and The People’s Book Prize Dame Beryl Bainbridge National Award 2015, she is passionate about improving literacy and empowering children to speak out about abuse.
Christina has written a number of books that teach children about the world around them, with themes such as childhood fears and teamwork. Her publication, Share Some Secrets, which has been highly commended by the NSPCC and Barnardo’s, is a picture-rhyming book aimed at five- to eight-year-olds that encourages children to share their troublesome secrets. Christina spent two years researching the topic, including spending time with an abuse lawyer for clarification and advice and listening to individuals who have been abused as children.

Inspector Jack Rowlands, Metropolitan Police
Jack Rowlands is a police Inspector in the Metropolitan Police. During his 15 years service he has focussed his work around primary prevention and safeguarding. He is also a trustee of the WAVE Trust that tackles the root causes of neglect and has implemented a number of programmes focussing on safeguarding children and vulnerable young adults.
Jack has also pioneer a police custody diversion programme called DIVERT. This uses police custody as a teachable moment that aims to divert young people away from crime into employment, education and training. DIVERT has been highlighted as best practice in the 2018 HM Governments Serious Violence Strategy

Dr Eunice Lumsden, Head of Early Years, University of Northampton
Dr. Eunice Lumsden is the Head of Early Years at The University of Northampton, Route Panel Member for the Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and is a registered Social Worker. She has extensive experience working with children and families and her research interests include the professionalisiation of the ECEC workforce, child maltreatment, social justice, poverty and adoption. She has received awards for her ‘Changemaking’ work and research in the early years. Nationally, she has been a member of several external expert groups advising the Government of Early Years qualifications and led the development of the Early Childhood Graduate Competencies for the Early Childhood Studies Network.

Andrew Ellery is a qualified social worker and best interests assessor (deprivation of liberty). He is currently an independent social worker, safeguarding consultant and trainer.
He is on advisory panels with two of the leading academic publishers and currently supports organisations with child and adult safeguarding assurance and improvement.
