JoJo & Gran Gran, based on the popular characters by Early Years specialist Laura Henry-Allain, is to feature among the new season’s offer on BBC’s pre-school channel, CBeebies.
JoJo & Gran Gran are characters close to the heart of Laura who has worked alongside the production team to develop the duo for TV.
“JoJo and Gran Gran is loosely based on my own relationship with my Grandmother,” said Laura. “I wanted to convey the deep connection between the two, the excitement at the world around her that JoJo has and Gran Gran’s wisdom, experience and zest for life”.
“It’s been such a delight seeing JoJo & Gran Gran make it to the screen,” added Laura. “We wouldn’t have got to this point without the hard work of so many people, and I’d like to thank the CBeebies production team, the writers, the animation team, the voiceover artists and, of course, the wonderful children who appear in the child-led live […]
I listened with excitement to Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast with the Duchess of Cambridge talking about her 5 Big Questions survey.
I was especially delighted when the Duchess mentioned the role that her grandmother played in her Early Years.

As you know, my children’s picture’s books, which depict the special relationship between a grandmother and her granddaughter, Jo Jo and GranGran, will be shown on the BBC’s Cbeebies very soon.
Jo Jo and GranGran is loosely based on the relationship that I had with my grandmother.
If you haven’t done so already, please complete the survey.
Jo-Jo and Gran-Gran is a fresh, new book series based on a pre-school child and her grandmother, showing the special and loving relationship that they have.
Jo-Jo and Gran-Gran All in a Week (first book), depicts Jo-Jo and Gran-Gran counting down the days until they see each other.
Jo-Jo and Gran-Gran is an intergenerational book and colleagues say that they love the way it reminds them of their own relationship with their grandparents, making the book emotive and appealing to both children and adults alike.
The idea of Jo-Jo and Gran-Gran is loosely based on Laura’s relationship with her own grandmother.
“As a grandparent myself it demonstrates the adorable bond between a grandmother and her grandchild, and the deep-rooted love this relationship brings.”
Sue Jones, grandmother and CEO of Evolution Childcare
“Laura has skilfully captured the depth of a relationship between generations. Children and carers alike will love turning the pages of this book together and relate to […]
